Our Building and History
Sand Lake Baptist traces its roots to the Protestant Society, incorporated in 1805, shortly after this building was erected. In its earliest days, Methodists, Baptists and Presbyterians worshipped here. It became the Second Baptist Church in 1835 after the other two denominations left, and unofficially became the Sand Lake Baptist Church in 1848. It wasn’t until 1956 that this became the official name. The church has grown in beauty and warmth through the years, adding a parsonage in 1846, a new bell in 1890 (one of several historic bells in the Sand Lake area), its unique curved pews in 1899, stained glass windows in 1911, organ in 1928 and educational building in 1956.
